The first issue I noticed almost as soon as I woke up was the lack of connectivity I had with my friends. My normal routine when I wake up consists of checking my phone for text messages, and logging onto Facebook. Without this, I kind of felt left out of the loop. It's funny, because even though I knew I would see most of them later in the day, for some reason it seemed as if I was missing out of something. In fact, I never realized how large of a role Facebook played in my life until I went without it. Normally I just impulsively check Facebook every time I walk past my computer, but going without internet actually forced me to leave my dorm room and interact with my friends in real life.
Even though it was strange not being connected to my friends every single second, the worst part of the day had to be the sheer boredom. It was kind of a shocking realization that I had completely forgotten how to entertain myself without watching TV or playing video games. I actually found myself studying more because I had nothing to distract me. Not only did I study more, but I also went outside and just ran around in an attempt to stave off the boredom.
In the end, I'm actually glad I went through a day without technology. While it might have been more convenient at times if I had had access to the internet, I think it did a good job at showing me exactly how dependent I am on the things I take for granted.
Haha, agreed, it was tough doing the day without technology. I couldn't quite manage it, I gave up after five or six hours. But I did find myself doing a lot more studying and reading than I usually do. Sometimes it's just good to get back to the basic things for a while.
